Review:

Having read some of the earlier reviews of this course before penning mine I feel that the Marquess has been slightly harshly treated! I have not as yet had chance to play Woburn's other courses (Duke and Duchess) and so will not attempt any cross-comparison, however, on it's own merit this course definitely justifies it's position within the Top 100, even maybe a higher position. True, some of the drives are reasonably generous and some of the holes may not be as stunnng as the location warrants but this is still a cracking golf course. The 2nd as earlier mentioned is a great short par 5 with a fairway that is less than 20yds wide, the 7th a staggering par 5 with danger awaiting even a slightly off-line tee-shot and approach. The 9th is a great downhill par 4 that really rewards a long, straight drive, and of course the 12th which is an interesting little par 4 that rewards a well-thought or tee-shot. The condition of the course is excellent bar a few greens that are still recovering from the problems of a couple of years ago, although they still putted true and reasonably quickly. I would return happily to play the Marquess again and will definitely be organising a trip to play the Duke and Duchess as soon as possible! MJ
