I have always wanted to play Woodlands as I was told it has the best green complexes outside of Royal Melbourne. Well, this is not true, as courses like Victoria, Kingston Heath and Metropolitan are better. Also, this course is quite flat, unlike the best undulating Sandbelt courses. However, don't let that put you off. The greens and bunkering are still world class and represent everything the Sandbelt is famous for. The greens are like upturned saucers, and the bunkers are always just where they need to be. To hit them, you have to come in from the right angle, and the angles to greens require you to be on the correct side of the mostly wide fairways, as they should be, and if you want to go for birdie or easy par you need to be on the right side of the fairway, or hit the ball 300 yards plus. Sandbelt golf at its best. This is not a long course, nor is it going to make you lose balls or rip up cards. However, it is the perfect members course, giving all handicaps a chance, offering challenges and asking the right questions of your game. I will be back.
