The course in play today at Worcester Golf Club is a Peter Matkovich/Gary Player co-production from the late 1980s, and it’s the only design the two architects have ever collaborated on.

Worcester Golf Club

The town of Worcester is located close to the main N1 highway that connects to Johannesburg about 90 minutes from Cape Town city centre, and it's in very close vicinity to Hex Mountains to the north in the north. Worcester station was inaugurated in 1876. The station was used by passengers along the Cape Town to Beaufort railway line. In 1876, the golf club officially opened to members of the public.

The layout currently being used in this course Worcester Golf Club is a Peter Matkovich/GaryPlaymaker co-production which was created in the mid-80s. It's the only layout on which both architect have co-designed. The course is situated in a serene natural setting that was has described as "Karoo parksland" with its fairways that are green contrasted starkly in the dry shrubland that surrounds the course.

The holes featured include the stretch of golf that extends from the 5th par hole and the par eighteenth hole. The par 3 hole 7th is the most popular hole that is a diagonal course through the central dam that leads into an island green. Par fours that are shorter at the sixth and 12th are beautiful and so is the 9th, hole that is a par 3 and 18th, both of which feature the same enormous double green. It is located just in between the clubhouse's two levels.

Worcester hosts a cherished three-day Stableford points contest called The Wijnlander every year since the year 1990. Participants are able to participate in the whole three days and participate competing for the title, or be competing on just one or three days. There's also a team award that is awarded to the highest three scores are considered. Every day there's an ceremony to award the winners, which includes meals and entertainment at night. The club is planning to make another day their debut in 2022. It will also assist those who play for provincial colours.
