Worplesdon deservedly takes its place among the best courses in Surrey and if you're looking for traditional heathland golf, the area is overflowing with riches. The clubhouse is impressive but still feels like a proper golf club, without the 'country club' feel of glitzy resorts. The course itself is not long but requires a lot of decision-making in club selection and shot placement. I was slightly disappointed in the first three holes, which seemed relatively uninteresting for a course of Worplesdon's maturity. However, the course gets a kick-start at the turn with the fun 10th playing over a pond before the holes across the road steal the show. Longer par 4s, interesting bunkering and subtle terrain changes make the back 9 more challenging and satisfying. For me, Worplesdon doesn't have quite the same variety, difficulty and consistent quality of the course nextdoor at West Hill, but is a great course in it's own right and a very proud club.
