Situated between the ancient Mayan city of Mérida and the coastal port of Progreso, the Yucatan Country Club is an enormous 820-acre residential development that features El Jaguar, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, as its star attraction.

The Country Club members are rather proud of the fact that their club is home to Latin America’s first Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf and their facilities are now being used by golfers of all ages and abilities.

The holes on the par 72 layout are set around several lakes and cenotes (sinkholes containing groundwater that are often found in the Yucatán Peninsula) with fairways located close to the archaeological site of Dzibilchaltún.

The course is laid out in two returning loops of 9-holes, with a back nine that’s rather unusually configured as three par threes, three par fours and three par fives.

In 2012, Yucatan hosted the first PGA Latin American tour event which Argentina’s Tommy Cocha won.
