Northamptonshire, located in East Midlands, is bordered on all sides by other counties. One of them - Lincolnshire- shares a boundary of just 21 yards. Northamptonshire was once known for the leather and shoemaking industry, but today its biggest claim to fame comes from the Daventry rail cargo terminal near the intersection of the M1 & M6 motorways. Northamptonshire Golf Union, founded in 1921, was for many years the governing body of around 10,000 golfers in a range from Cherwell GC to the west and Peterborough Milton GC to the east. It is one of the ten Unions that are affiliated with the Midland Golf Union. The Northamptonshire Ladies County Golf Association is the body that represents female golfers. Since 1930, the association has looked out for women's golfers. The governing body, in addition to organizing the County Championship annually, promoted other competitions such as the Bouverie Bowl Trophy, Cecil Leitch Trophy, and Swannell Salver. Northamptonshire Golf was formed in 2015 when the Northamptonshire Golf Union merged with Northamptonshire Ladies County Golf Association. Twenty-four clubs are now under one authority. There are several courses worth considering if you are visiting this area. Most are located around Northamptonshire County: Northamptonshire County (host of two British Masters), Collingtree Park, the Northampton Golf Club in Harlestone and Alison and Colt's design from Kingsthorpe.
