Grampian & North East

The Grampian and North East region of Scotland has been inhabited since Neolithic times, with significant archaeological sites such as the Aberdeenshire stone circles attesting to early settlement. The area became a centre of Pictish culture before medieval times saw the rise of powerful aristocratic families, including the Gordons and Keiths. Aberdeen, the region's principal city, received its royal burgh status in the 12th century and developed as a significant trading port.
