Golf arrived in Sweden in the early twentieth century, with Gothenburg's historic links to Scotland providing a natural entry point. The country's second-oldest club, Stockholms Golfklubb, was founded in 1904, yet golf remained a niche pursuit until the 1980s and 1990s, when it expanded rapidly into one of Sweden's largest organised sports with close to half a million registered members.
