Faldo’s Lough Erne nears completion

April 26, 2007

The first course at the 125-bed Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland is approaching its 2008 completion date.

Ireland’s answer to Loch Lomond comes at a weighty price – £25,000 down plus £1,200 annual subs. The club already has a waiting list but with a mere 100 members, many of whom are thought to live overseas, it seems to us that Lough Erne will not be overplayed by the wealthy membership.

"With Castle Hume Lough on one side and Lower Lough Erne on the other, this golf course encompasses a natural Lakeland that no one could have designed better! A few years ago Loch Lomond set the standard for Scottish lakeland golf. I am confident that my design at Lough Erne can do the same for Ireland." Nick Faldo.

Certainly the Fermanagh location is ravishing but we doubt that it can compete with yon bonnie banks of Loch Lomond but as far as the course is concerned, the jury has yet to be assembled.
