Northeast Region US Best In State Rankings 2014

Phase one of our revised and updated US Best In State rankings for 2014 is complete

6th March 2014

Almost two years after finishing our inaugural US Best in State rankings, we are pleased to announce that the first phase of four Regional re-ranking updates is now complete.

The Northeast Region of the USA, as defined by the US Census Bureau, comprises of nine states, the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; and the Mid-Atlantic states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. For the purpose of grouping our Best in State updates, we have decided to implement the rollout in four regional phases (Northeast, Midwest, South and West).

The Northeast is the nation’s most densely populated region and almost a third of America’s Top 100 Golf Courses are located in this area. Nine US Top 100 golf courses are currently positioned in the six New England states with Massachusetts leading the way with six layouts in the national hundred. However, almost a quarter of the national Top 100 (twenty-three to be precise) are to be found in the three Mid-Atlantic states, with the mighty New York being the number one state with thirteen courses in the US hundred.

New York may boast more nationally ranked courses than any other state, but New Jersey has the esteemed Pine Valley as the national standard-bearer, along with six other Top 100 courses in the NJ state rankings.

We’ve extended most of our Best in State ranking lists since we launched our first iteration some two years ago. New York and Pennsylvania now feature Top 50s for the first time and Massachusetts and New Jersey now profile Top 30s. In fact, we’ve extended most state rankings in the Northeast region.

The latest revision of our Best In State rankings is simply work in progress, as we know there are unheralded golf courses that we should feature. If you’re passionate about your home state’s golf courses and would like to help us further develop our Best In State initiative by shining a light on a hidden gem, then please send an email to info@top100golfcourses.com. We’d love to hear from you.
