Top 10 Golf Courses in Cumbria 2015

Cumbria Best In County rankings updated

Undeniably one of the most beautiful regions in the United Kingdom, Cumbria is better known for the Lake District National Park than for its golf. Visitors from around the world flock to England’s second largest county, which is also one of England’s most sparsely populated. During the summer months the towns and villages heave with tourists, but from a golfing perspective the fairways of Cumbria remain relatively quiet.

With less than forty golf courses from which to choose, Cumbria is generally off the radar for visiting golfers, but there are some gems that are hidden behind the county’s undisputed number one, which stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Silloth on Solway Golf Club has featured in the national and GB&I Top 100 rankings since time began and it’s an undiluted pure links experience that is set well off the beaten track on the Solway Coast. We recommend a pilgrimage because it’s a seminal golfing experience.

Our recent poll resulted in a few changes in the top half of the county’s latest Top 10. Carlisle Golf Club, host to the English Seniors Open in 2010, moves up two places to 2nd position, displacing Seascale, which surprisingly drops to 4th spot. Penrith received strong support from respondents and jumps up two positions to 3rd, while Brampton drops to 5th behind Seascale.

The second half of our 2015 Cumbria Top 10 remains exactly the same, so there are no new entries to report.
