Two aces in one round

I’ve written holes in one before and I am still waiting for mine!! However, there was an extraordinary feat at Carlow Golf Club recently when member John Brophy had two aces in the same round.
John plays off 11 and he was playing in an Open Fourball. He found the cup in one at the par 3, 6th and holed out again for ace at the 13th! So I got to thinking and wondered if this was unusual! Out came the Golfer’s Handbook and the search began.
The first recorded instance came in 1907 when a person called Ireland holed at the 5th and 18th at Worlington and two years later H.C Josecelyne had holes in one at the 3rd and 14th holes at Acton.
The ladies got in on the act as well with Mrs. W Driver scoring aces at the 3rd and 8th holes at her club, Balgowlah Golf Club in New Wales in May 1942 while Mrs. F Burke scored two aces on the same course at the 2nd and 8th holes in July 1948.
A 75 year old Reverend Harold Snider is the only person recorded to have scored three holes in one in the same round!
Playing the Ironwood Course near Phoenix in June 1976, he aced the 8th hole, knocked in another at the 13th and followed that with another ace at the next hole! The course is only a par three, I hasten to add!!!
The youngest player to achieve two holes in one in the same round is thought to be Christopher Jones in September 1994.
Playing at Sand Moor near Leeds he scored his aces on the 137 yard 10th and again at the 156 yard 17th.
He was a month short of his 15th birthday!
Meanwhile Norman Manley of Long Beach California is thought to have the record for the most holes in one at 59 while a J.O. Boydstone, also of California had eleven aces in one calendar year in 1962.
And how about Douglas Porteous of Glasgow who scored seven holes in one in eight months but managed four of them in one five day period.
Successive holes in one are extremely rare and scoring them on par fours even rarer still but that’s what happened to Norman Manley (of the 59 aces fame) at Del Valle Country Club in September 1964.
The par 4 7th was 330 yards while the next hole was a par 4 of 290 yards, both slightly downhill and dog-legs. Manley had aces at both and went on to record a course record of 61.
