|Designed by Greg Norman, the Reserve at Pawleys Island is just one of five private courses that discerning golfers will find on the McConnell Golf Trail.|
Wow I would rate this course much higher. I think it is significantly better than almost all of the Myrtle Beach area courses in the rankings. Really solid Norman design with 18 unique holes. Really has more of the feel of a Carolina Sandhills type course rather than a Myrtle Beach layout. The tee shot landing areas are generous, although somewhat deceiving as the fairways slope off from the center encouraging shots to roll into the pine straw that surrounds the fairways. Quite a few outstanding holes. The par four 5th is only around 380 yards but ranks as the number 1 handicap hole due to the really tight and difficult drive that must be positioned perfectly to approach the green. The par four 9th has a tough approach over a marsh and 18 is a difficult par 5 that is a true three shot hole. This course has a nice combination of par 4's that edge both right and left, 4 nice par threes and tough par 5's that are difficult to hit in two even for long hitters. There are a great variety of teeing areas that should allow a player to choose the appropriate challenge for their level of play. A nice challenging course that is loads of fun to play.
