Matt Bosela

Like many others, I was introduced to the game of golf by my father as a youngster and fell in love with the sport instantly.

My teenage years saw me spend almost all of my free time on the golf course and I improved to the point where I'd earn the right to play in a number of key provincial and national junior championships in Canada. After one uneventful half season of varsity golf at the University of Western Ontario, I stepped away from the game for a couple years as I worked on building my career.

A low-key golf trip with some friends through the American Midwest in 2001 rekindled my interest in the game but, more importantly, this was the point when my fascination and interest in golf course architecture truly began. I started a blog in April 2005 (Now on the Tee) to talk about my adventures on and off the golf course and I continue to maintain it to this day. A key moment in the evolution of my writing and my interest in architecture took place in August 2007, when I got the opportunity to play my first World Top 100 course, the historic Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. That amazing experience sparked my interest and desire to see as many of the world's best courses as I possibly could and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have visited so many great places in Canada, the United States and most recently, the home of golf, Scotland.

As far as my game goes, I'd reach my ultimate goal in the summer of 2008, when I became a scratch player for the first time. Those heady times are a distant memory, however, as I currently maintain a five handicap and play out of Lookout Point CC, a fine Walter Travis design located just outside of Niagara Falls, Canada.
