My
love affair with golf courses started more than thirty years ago. I’ve lost
count of the number of different courses I’ve played down the years, but I have
golfed across four continents and have played more than 90 courses in the Britain
& Ireland Top 100. I’ve negotiated thousands of ordinary golf holes over the
years and hundreds that are truly excellent, but many memorable experiences
involved playing average golf courses in wonderful company. I’m the
Editor-in-Chief and Founder of Top 100 Golf Courses and sometimes play to a 10
handicap.
Surprised how good Majorca is as a golf destination and Puntiro was one of the unexpected pleasures of our recent 2008 trip. Clearly it’s a new layout which needs time to...
Played Son Gual recently and it will run Valderrama close as a contender for the best conditioned golf course in Spain. The attention to detail is stunning from beginning...
Played Pearl Valley when staying in Franschhoek and the course is located midway between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. The gated community was well underway when I played...
One word for me sums up Abama… “Oasis”. It’s a slice of tropical heaven in an otherwise barren volcanic landscape. Atlantic seaward views are stunning with the island of...
Monty’s course at Celtic Manor is really a hybrid of the old Wentwood Hills and Coldra Woods courses and those who've played the former will recognise some of the holes w...
Played Palheiro a couple of times when visiting Madeira a few years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed the course which sits next to the Botanic Gardens. The first time I played i...
My second favourite of the three La Manga courses, the North is a typical resort layout with a twist of interest around the ravines. The elevation changes are much sharpe...
The West course is completely different to the North and South. Gone are the views of the La Manga complex, villas and condominiums (except on the 18th tee) and in come t...
The South is my least favourite of the three courses at La Manga but it’s by no means a bad track. What it lacks is elevation change and consequently palm-lined fairways,...
Villamartin could be a great course. It is set out on an interesting and undulating tract of land with many cleverly designed an genuinely exciting holes. The only proble...
Played the Robinson Noblis in 2003 and was impressed. It's mature beyond its years due to its routing through an old pine forest. Position off the tee is the key to scori...
This may not be the premier course at the Antalya Golf Club but it's a great little track and a tough one too. It's not long but with tight fairways and plenty of water t...
TAT is perhaps not the greatest name for a golf course and if it was my property I'd change the name immediately. Nevertheless it's a nice course if perhaps a little in t...
Played the Majlis course in January 2001, just ahead of the Desert Classic which I watched with interest as Thomas Bjorn went on to win. Naturally I went for it on the 18...
Stayed at the fabulous five star Sirene Golf Hotel in 2003 and played the Sultan course which had only been open for a year. Was mightily impressed and was able to compar...
If you are visiting Abaco on a budget and want to stay at a resort that has a beautiful Top 10 beach, a pretty marina and plenty of other activities, then Treasure Cay ha...
Have been fortunate enough to play this course a couple of times and it is magnificent. The holes weave up and down in a manner very reminiscent of a links course, althou...
We played Sandy Hills recently and contrary to the previous review, our foursome loved this course. I agree with one of the comments below in that it’s a tough and long w...
Golf in Scotland is all about seaside golf, but Blairgowrie is one of the country's premier inland venues. The Rosemount is the better of the two layouts but the Landsdow...
Played the Machico and Desertas loops and I thoroughly enjoyed the championship Santo da Serra layout. Unfortunately I couldn’t see much of the first few holes due to low...
