David Baxter

Although I have played golf for over forty years now (generally in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire) it is really during the last 10 years that it is has become my primary sport and my real interest in different courses has developed. This has been enhanced by the development of websites such as this and the increase in number of Open competitions, which is a great way to play different courses at a reasonable cost. I have been a single figure handicap golfer for about 10 years and am a country member of Saunton Golf Club. I played my 200th course in November 2016, and am a bit of a traditionalist golf course wise (not too keen on some modern layouts) and think course conditioning (in particular the greens) and location is more important than off-course food and clubhouse. I particularly enjoy links and heathland courses and my favourite courses to date would be Royal Porthcawl, Notts Hollinwell, Saunton (East and West). Other favourite gems would be Pennard, Cardigan, Llandrindod Wells and Parkstone. Royal Dornoch is top of my must visit list, and there are many areas of the UK I would like to visit... would be good to play at least one course in each county.

St Pierre (Old) 01/08/2017

6th South Wales - Best in Area 16th Wales Ranking
St. Pierre is dominated by large trees with huge canopies and must be a typical example of a mature parkland course. Played it in July 2017 and the greens were generally...

Welshpool 23/07/2017

Rugged is the word I would use to describe Welshpool. The £12 twilight green fee is an absolute bargain, and the staff were very obliging. Unfortunately I didn't have tim...

Cleeve Hill certainly covers a large acreage, the views are very good and the yellow gorse was in bloom (although didn't actually affect play much). Clubhouse is old, par...

The 2017 West course at Saunton must now be as good as the East. Having played the changed course off the blue (back) tees I feel justified in uplifting my previous ratin...
