Single figure golfer, home club the Royal Jersey Golf Club. Played 95 of the GB&I Top 100. The only type of course I am not overly fond of are parkland / tree lined courses. Fan of Coore & Crenshaw, McLay Kidd, Doak and Harry Colt. Favourite resorts are Bandon and Streamsong. Favourite courses in no particular order are Chambers Bay, Royal County Down, Doonbeg, Les Bordes, Oitavos, West Cliffs, Pebble Beach, Streamsong Blue, Old Head, Birkdale, Carne, TPC Sawgrass, Pacific Dunes, Skibo Castle and Tobacco Road. Passionate about rankings but I find reviews of private courses frustrating as I, most avid golfers, want to the opportunity to play all courses especially if they are considered great.
Played Hankley Common last week in the Mizuno Pairs event and after a wonderful moment on the first tee when the event starter, having asked one of our group what his nam...
Very, good course. As with most links courses, the outstanding holes are adjacent to the sea and the stretch of holes from 3 to 5 are wonderful, including the stunning vie...
I found Lundin to be a very interesting course to play with an appealing mix of traditional links fayre (majority of the course) to 4 or 5 holes that had a discernible in...
Authentic raw links course sprinkled with top end holes. Turf is wonderfully firm and the course has consistent topography and with no weak holes. Having 4 extra holes ha...
Excellent heathland course in fabulous condition and worthy of its place inside the GB&I top 100. Enjoyed the contrast in 9s, with the front 9 very muscular with all of t...
Solid links course built on a fabulous location on the flat lands between sea and mountains. Standout holes are the strong par 4, 7th, the strategic par 5, 12th and the a...
I love Castle Stuart (played it 5 times) and feel that Dumbarnie is just as good – as such it is a top 20 calibre course in GB&I. It is visually stunning with the use of...
Ranking of just inside the top 100 links is about correct although it is vulnerable to dropping out with Dumbarnie Links definitely and possibly others being included. I...
As mentioned a few times below, the 4 holes that are situated on the right of the dividing wall are not as exhilarating as holes 4 to 17 on the other side, however they a...
I think it is close between Nos 1 and 2 in terms of quality and holes 4, 6, 13, 14 and 16 on the No 2 is as good as any hole on No 1. Hole 3 is not great but it is a way...
Decent track. Fairways were not the best (I met a Europro Tour player doing some prep work for the upcoming tournament at Leven, and he said "like the course but greens a...
Proper links (in comparison wth near neighbours Lundin and Leven, where there is also a parkland/heathland feel). Lots of quirkiness (which 8 love). Holes 11 to 13 are sp...
A wonderful mix of links and heathland with glorious purple heather animating the course in a number of areas. Always a fan of a gentle opening hole, to allow golfers to...
A big golf course, built for the pros or very good amateurs. Greens were superb (kept their speed from the recent tour event). The land is similar to that used by the Cas...
It has a feel that you are playing golf on a course "from olden times" and it is wonderful for it. As many reviewers have mentioned there is a sense of melancholy as a nu...
An absolute treat and an underrated course. Wonderful dunescape with the elavation changes not too extreme. Good variety of par 4s, from the muscular 1, 9 and 18 (430 to...
Decent golf course but some way off the Ailsa in terms of topography and visuals ( understandably ) so very much a second course. The part of the course where you could s...
A wonderfully aesthetic golf course with good variety of holes and some of the best bunkering throughout the course both from a visual and strategic standpoint, I have ex...
With the stunning views of the coast from a number of parts of the course it is easy to overlook what a very good golf course this is. Ok the first five holes do not have...
There is a wonderful serenity to this golfing experience which is utterly compelling. Firstly, this is essentially a 1 or 2 ball course (I noticed some foursome pairings...
