David Oliver

Single figure golfer, home club the Royal Jersey Golf Club. Played 95 of the GB&I Top 100. The only type of course I am not overly fond of are parkland / tree lined courses. Fan of Coore & Crenshaw, McLay Kidd, Doak and Harry Colt. Favourite resorts are Bandon and Streamsong. Favourite courses in no particular order are Chambers Bay, Royal County Down, Doonbeg, Les Bordes, Oitavos, West Cliffs, Pebble Beach, Streamsong Blue, Old Head, Birkdale, Carne, TPC Sawgrass, Pacific Dunes, Skibo Castle and Tobacco Road. Passionate about rankings but I find reviews of private courses frustrating as I, most avid golfers, want to the opportunity to play all courses especially if they are considered great.

Mission Inn (El Campeón) 27/11/2018

56th Florida - Best in Area
This course is excellent apart from one aspect - a huge tree in the middle of the par 5, (560 yards) 17th hole. This in my view spoils what is a brilliantly designed hole...

1st Staffordshire - Best in Area 43rd England Ranking 97th Britain & Ireland Ranking
A course that clearly divides opinion ! I can see where some of the negative reviews generate from as the first 4 holes are bland - the par 5, 3rd hole is awful with tree...

Murcar Links 26/05/2018

4th North East Scotland - Best in Area 38th Scotland Ranking
The rankings have it right, Murcar is not quite top 100 being a manifest level below those courses comprising 90 to 100. It's a decent course but feels tight and stifling...

Brora is very very special. Played this morning on a hazy morning which added to the ethereal feel. There are few golf courses that can match this one in terms of natural...

Golf Monthly, noooooo ! How can the Machrie not be in your top 100 ? (Especially when the Belfry, Trevose, Staunton West and Tandridge are included) (I should say that a...

7th Ayrshire & Arran - Best in Area 39th Scotland Ranking
Excellent golf course which has to be close to the top 100 (albeit it is ultra competitive at that echelon). Like the gentle first few holes which ease you into the round...
