I grew up playing golf on the side of a hill in Yorkshire and after 20 years down south now live in Sheffield. I play off 4, am a member at Hallamshire, Royal St Davids, and part of the Top 100 GB&I panel. I’m not an out and out list-chaser as I like to ensure I play the quirky, fun courses in a region too, I have now played most of the GB&I Top 100 and half of the World Top 100. I became a rater through my fascination of golf course architecture and tend to favour courses that are subtle and strategic and those that test your mental skills as much as your physical ability. My favourite courses are Ardfin, Hirono, Cape Wickham, Sunningdale Old, Hollinwell and The Old Course. My favourite architect is Alister Mackenzie but I have an increasing fascination for Seth Raynor. Aside from courses I love the mental challenge of foursomes.
