Ulrich Mayring

My name is Ulrich Mayring, I am based in Germany and currently play off 12. Continental and sometimes non-continental Europe are my main stomping grounds and for this site I am performing the duty of German Correspondent. Essentially that means I need to play and review a lot of German courses and help with the rankings.

At http://gcescale.mayring.de I have described my guidelines for judging the quality of a golf course. For me the leaders in their respective countries turned out to be Cruden Bay, St Enodoc, Ballybunion Old, Kennemer, Hamburger Falkenstein, Acquasanta, Hardelot Les Pins and Seefeld-Wildmoos. True, these are all classic courses, but I also applaud the modern efforts at Belle Dune, Föhr, Le Querce, Millstätter See, Cihelny, Gerre Losone and Harre Vig.

Gut Lärchenhof is one of the most expensive courses in Germany and thus immaculate conditioning and a splendid clubhouse can be expected. However, the super casual mental...

Be warned, this is not a "me too" course. It is loads of fun, but it will also brutalise you. I suppose you can go low here, if you play conservatively, but where is the...

To me Hubbelrath was a revelation. Coming in I knew it was a prestigious course and probably the best in the area, but I didn't expect it to go beyond regional stardom. H...

1st West Germany - Best in Area 7th Germany Ranking
Ok, to make this a 2nd tier Surrey course (which would be 1st tier Germany) we'd have to start by thinning out the broad-leafed trees except those on the perimeter of the...
