Ulrich Mayring

My name is Ulrich Mayring, I am based in Germany and currently play off 12. Continental and sometimes non-continental Europe are my main stomping grounds and for this site I am performing the duty of German Correspondent. Essentially that means I need to play and review a lot of German courses and help with the rankings.

At http://gcescale.mayring.de I have described my guidelines for judging the quality of a golf course. For me the leaders in their respective countries turned out to be Cruden Bay, St Enodoc, Ballybunion Old, Kennemer, Hamburger Falkenstein, Acquasanta, Hardelot Les Pins and Seefeld-Wildmoos. True, these are all classic courses, but I also applaud the modern efforts at Belle Dune, Föhr, Le Querce, Millstätter See, Cihelny, Gerre Losone and Harre Vig.

The most spectacular dunes at Ballybunion aren't on the Old course, but on a site next to it, so it is no wonder that the club decided to build another course there. It i...
