I am a very keen golfer, native of Australia but worked all round the world, and my golf clubs were always with me. Now a resident of Paraparaumu Beach, and member if its wonderful golf course. My favourite golf trip is Scotland to play the links courses. Also love the Sand Belt courses of Melbourne, where I learnt to play. However, as much as I love playing a great course, I love even more playing the courses no one ever hears of, in places no one would expect to see a golf course. To me, golf is not about the fastest green, perfect fairway or grandest clubhouse. It is about fun, enjoying the walk and trying to hit more good shots than bad. And, most important, meeting the challenge of a game that beats you time and time again, and yet we keep coming back. I love this site because it brings memories, good and bad. It is also a great reference for wherever my next travel is. I hope you don’t all agree with my reviews, for what makes a great hole is a subjective opinion. Long may that be so.
There is something quite surreal about driving over an unsealed road for several kilometres before arriving at the gates of one of the most exclusive golf courses on the...
This course does not deserve to rated so low, and is now the best course of the four national golf courses. It oozes Doaks' philosophy of being a good members course whil...
Newly renovated, I can't wait to come back in 12 months when the work has settled in. This course will soar up the rankings once it is "re-discovered". The green complexe...
This is a delightful course to play, easy to walk, and interesting enough to hold your attention. You really have to be straight off the tee, as the fairways are narrow a...
There are in New Zealand only one MacKenzie course, and one Russell course. As a member of the one Russell course, Paraparaumu Beach, I was lucky enough to be invited to...
I have always wanted to play Woodlands as I was told it has the best green complexes outside of Royal Melbourne. Well, this is not true, as courses like Victoria, Kingsto...
This was the best course I played on a golfing tour of George and surrounds. Ernie Els has crafted a course for all levels (although the carry from some tees to fairways...
Played here in October. All I can say is thank god for golf carts, because I have never played a course with so much elevation change. Overall, this is a fine course with...
Just a correction; this course should now be called National Long Island Course, as it has merged with the National GC, and joins the Old, Moonah and Ocean as part of a 7...
Whatever you do, take lots of balls if you are in anyway a slightly inaccurate hitter, especially off the tees. The fairways are narrow, and the rough deep. When I played...
Depending on who you talk to, this is either the best members sandbelt course or just an average collection of holes. To me is it somewhere in between. The opening hole,...
I first played Kingston Heath in the 70's. Then it was a tea tree infested piece of land with narrow fairways. If you missed a fairway you were in the tea trees which wer...
A fine members course, not long, but challenging. The removal of the many trees has made it an even more exciting layout as this has opened up the lines. The opening hole...
By far the best of the three courses, this one offers the most to all golfers. Unlike Moonah with its brute force requirements this course both beguiles and deceives. Not...
Have to admit I played this course after a big night out the previous day so the first few holes were not well received, especially as there was a gale blowing and they w...
I have never played the west course, so this is all I have to go on, but Victoria is a better track. The holes at RM East you start and finish, 1 to 4 and 16 to 18 are si...
This is a course that is old fashioned, in fair condition and not too hard, but I enjoy playing here nonetheless. The members are enthusiastic, welcoming and always ready...
I never know why they have championship tees on a resort course. I am single figures, and yet from the back tees this course is no fun at all. Come forward and it makes a...
Ok, here we go. I played this when I went to the Open at St Andrews and I am giving this top marks not because it is a great challenge or brilliant design or anything lik...
Narrow is exactly how this course can be described. It is nice to play, but unlike other top courses in Australia, especially the Royals, this is nothing more than a good...
