I like playing different golf courses and holidaying in fabulous locations around the world playing the game. I also enjoy reviewing golf courses that I have played and comparing my reflections with others. My life target is to play 1000 separate golf courses, and I hope to reach 700 in 2021. I use the ‘Top 100 Golf Courses’ website as my guide so that I only play at good quality locations.
My handicap is 14 at Hankley Common, Surrey, UK and I also have membership rights at Gleneagles in Scotland and Simola in South Africa.
We played Ogbourne Downs today in wind that was blowing hard, bitterly cold and even icy, and yet thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sure enough it would have been better...
Playing South Winchester on a cold New Year’s Eve, where the temperature never rose much above freezing, seemed an appropriate way to celebrate my memory of the unforgett...

Rated the top course in the Canary Islands, Anfi Tauro provided a bewildering mixture of the very good and the indifferent, but ultimately failed to live up to expectatio...
The golfing complex at Salobre was owned by a large hotel chain and is in 2 vast inland valleys with golf in the middle (see photo of the Old), and significant developmen...
This is an impressive track which I understand has undergone a major upgrade in the last 12 months. It is also the only golf course on the island with fairways right next...
We played Maspalomas today without great expectations seeing that the average reviewers’ mark was a paltry 2. We were therefore greatly surprised by the quality of the co...
Aberdovey is a true links with 9 holes out and 9 holes back and strongly influenced by the wind. On the day we played, the wind was southerly averaging over 25mph, ‘mild’...
We were lucky to play this scenic golf course on a dry, sunny and windless day in early November. The views over the English Channel, Beachy Head and some glorious rollin...
We played this downland course on a day of high winds early in November. The front nine is very open and exposed to the winds, and with wind against is a tough slog. 3 of...
I selected East Berkshire to play my 650th golf course in a twoball with my wife on my birthday, and was thrilled by this charming and delightful place. Sure enough it w...
The Green course at Frilford is very agreeable to play, in the gently rolling Oxfordshire countryside. At just over 6000 yards from the back tees it does not need to be p...
Unusual and very quirky, Kington will stir the emotions. If you see golf as an exercise in pure enjoyment, played over some extremely varied tracts of land, you will love...
A well designed parkland course with a huge variety of holes, The Herefordshire is set in the middle of tranquil and beautiful countryside. Some of the surrounding views...
I have read the mixed reviews on Porthmadog and was hugely surprised by the quality on offer. Most writers are critical of the parkland- style front nine, and sure enough...
We played Tadmarton Heath on a grey windless autumnal day and found the golf course and Club very traditional and an absolute delight. Situated in beautiful rolling count...
We played Banstead Downs on a wet October day, but despite the conditions the honest nature of the course shone through and we had a good time. The word ‘Downs’ in its ti...
Portugal has many excellent golf courses. I am indeed fortunate to have played a good number of them and of those I have played Monte Rei is in my view the best and the ‘...
This is a truly unique golf course on an elevated cliff site to the north of the small town of Bamburgh. In fact, on a sunny day as we enjoyed, the 360 degree views from...
We saved Northumberland to the last of our four golf course tour of the county believing it may be the best, despite the lowest green fee. So ultimately we were a little...
