Caernarfon

Golf has been played at Caernarfon since 1909 and, for over seventy years, members of Caernarfon Golf Club were happy to play on a 9-hole layout. That all changed though in 1981 when the course was doubled in size to its present 18-hole configuration and it has since gone from strength to strength as course improvements every year add to its reputation as an ideal golfing venue on the coast.

It is a gently undulating parkland track with lovely views of Caernarfon Castle, the Menai Straits and the Isle of Anglesey and many golfing societies and holidaymakers return year after year to walk the lush, tree-lined fairways.

The signature hole is the right doglegged 14th, named “Y Fenai,” a 335-yard par four. With the prevailing wind blowing from behind on the tee, big hitters may be tempted to go for the green but the internal out of bounds on the right and course boundary down the left will severely punish any stray drives.

The Royal Town of Caernarfon Golf Club (to give the club their official title) are justifiably proud of hosting the Welsh Boys Championship during their centenary year in 2009 as it’s the first major championship to be held here – a sure sign that their course has come of age in the new millennium.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
