Cariló
Host venue to the Abierto de Cariló tournament on Argentina’s TPG Tour between 1983 and 2011, the course at Cariló Golf Club is a tale of two halves. Tomas Sanderson’s front nine opened in 1976 with smaller greens and the newer second nine debuted with more generous putting surfaces.
Located just a 90-minute drive northeast of Mar del Plata, the course is laid out in a dense pine forest only a kilometre from the coast, with tight fairways (many of which are doglegged) making big demands of players on the tee and with the approach shot. A round here has been described as “a kind of chess (requiring) a golf swing, knowledge of the course (and) the skill of each player and their decisions – in short, a real game of golf.”
The course measures 5,396 yards from the back markers, playing to a par of 73, with holes arranged as two returning nines. Three of the final five holes are set out as demanding par fives. Other holes of note include the shortest of the par threes at the 6th (where four bunkers protect the left side of the green), and the right doglegging par four 17th (rated stroke index 2) which features a large sand hazard guarding the front of the putting surface.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
