Designed by Donald Steel and opened for play in the mid-1990s, the 18-hole parkland layout at The Gower Golf Club features a delightful 4-hole “Amen Corner” woodland sequence starting at the par five 8th.

Extending to just over 6,20 yards from the back markers, the course plays to a par of 71 (35 out then 36 in). Water comes into play at the par five 8th, where a pond protects the front of the putting surface as the fairway turns left to the green.

Highlight holes include difficult par fours at the 7th and 14th (stroke index 2 and 1); the par five 10th (where a ditch crosses the fairway diagonally short of the green); and the last of the par threes at the 141-yard 11th in the southernmost part of the property.

Played Gower when staying at the rooms on site and I'm afraid I was not blown away by the 90's style of open course. Only a couple of holes struck me as being decent, namely the par 5 10th and the short 11th. Many better courses in the area !
