One of around fifty golf facilities in France which are operated by the Bluegreen management company, the 27-hole Golf Bluegreen Gujan-Mestras complex is located in the Gironde department of Nouvelle-Aquitane, close to the popular seaside resort of Arcachon, where golfers have been made welcome since 1990.
Extending to 6,225 metres from the back markers, the main 18-hole course is laid out as two returning nines, each of which plays to a par of 36. Highlight holes include the par three 3rd, the par four 12th and the par four 18th, all of which feature greens that are protected by intimidating sand and water hazards.
The Peugeot Golf Guide describes the course as follows in this edited extract:
“The terrain has been slightly graded for greater relief and the sandy sub-soil is ideal for golf. The course winds its way pleasantly through the heather and pine trees, with playing difficulties carefully gauged to avoid scaring the lesser player. Aside from a few water hazards, the main problems are the bunkers and trees, which generally afford easy access to huge greens.”
