As its name suggests, the course at Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club features a variety of beautiful ponds and lakes and these challenging water hazards threaten from the tee at some holes and with the approach shot at others.

Gungahlin Lakes

Owned and operated by the Ainslie Group, one of the leading hospitality groups in Canberra, the 18-hole layout at Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club (known locally as “The Lakes”) first opened for public play in 1996, so it’s one of the newest golf facilities in the Australian Capital Territory.

Co-designed by Ted Parslow and Jamie Dawson of Enviro Links Design Pty Ltd, the course was renovated only a decade after opening when Jamie Dawson returned to add new bunkers, upgrade tees with ornamental stone walls and landscaping, as well as install new cart paths.

The course is characterised by lakes and creeks, with water featuring on many of the holes, particularly on the back nine. The toughest hole is kept until last at the 417-metre 18th, where a pond cuts in on the right side as the fairway bends gently towards a heavily sand-protected home green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
