Despite living in the shadow of an older sibling which has hosted several Austrian Opens, the Max Lamberg-designed Haugschlag course at Golfresort Haugschlag is a terrific track in its own right, featuring a fabulous island green finish at its short par three 18th hole.
Extending to 6,396 metres from the back markers, the course plays to a par of 72, with holes arranged in an out-and-back fashion. There are six tee positions set up at every hole, so the layout can be played as short as 5,078 metres for those who might not want to blast away mindlessly from the longer tees.
Highlight holes include the par three 4th (with water to the left of the green); the left doglegging par five 6th (rated stroke index 6); a couple of severely doglegging holes at the par four 10th and par five 15th; then the aforementioned 127-metre 18th where the home green is completely surrounded by water.
