Opened in 2019, La Providencia (Providence) Resort & Country Club is located less than an hour’s drive southwest of Buenos Aires city centre, with a Jan Sonnevi-designed 18-hole golf course as the centrepiece of a 660-acre gated community which also offers tennis courts and polo fields as sporting amenities for its members.

Extending to 6,486 metres from the back tees and playing to a par of 72, the course occupies around a quarter of the property, with many of the remaining acres devoted to the 715 housing units that will eventually be built within an upmarket residential development.

Several lakes were excavated to provide material to fashion fairway contours and these water hazards come into play at half the holes on the scorecard. Highlight holes include the shortest of the par threes at the 155-metre 6th and the very tough par four 11th, rated stroke index 2.

PLayed this one twice, once when it opened back in 2018 and the other one December 2020 just before leaving my Argentina as permanent home which was my last round at home up to now and maybe for some more time, which was quite emotional as I shared it with argentine legend Vicente "Chino" Fernandez (winner at St Andrews 1979).

The course has a very good layout but as many new venues needs maturity and trees to grow and settle to define better the dogleg holes. It is in pristine shaped, El Chino does a great job managing it. Great elevated Club House facing 18th makes it a perfect spot for an after round beer.

As for the course, back 9 are more fun, varied and challenging in my opinion with one great short 4 (15th), a fantastic par 3 on 14th with water on the left and back side and a monster 18th to a very well protected green. It may not be famous yet and lack of tradition, but one perfect course to play the day of arrival or departure as it is very close to the Ezeiza Airport.
