Situated not far from the Mediterranean coast, midway between Fuengirola and Marbella, Miraflores is a great family golf course, ideally suited for holiday golf – in fact, many consider a round here represents the best value for money golf on the whole of the Costa del Sol!

Hilly, tight and short (measuring only 5,600 yards) it certainly is, but Miraflores offers a different challenge to golfers of varying abilities and the more proficient player will relish the chance of bagging a few birdies by cutting the corner at a few of the doglegged par fives on the scorecard.

Housing on the periphery of the course in such a built up residential area feels somewhat oppressive on the front nine but that all changes after the 12th hole when the routing opens up and the apartment blocks flanking the fairways all but disappear as the course follows the natural contours of the valley in which it’s located back to the clubhouse.

OK, I admit more than a tinge of bias here (see below). This was another course that I had been told was not really worth a visit but I wanted to tick the box. It is short (5,650 yards) and it is hemmed in by development in a number of areas - loads of opportunities to land your Pro V1 in someone's sangria on a balcony. BUT, playing off 15, I had the best round of my life - 48 points and 7 birdies, a feat I never thought that I would achieve - and it was witnessed by 3 others, I am pleased to say. However, bias apart, I thought that the course was very pleasant, the greens have improved (so I am told) and some of the holes are really quite challenging (Nos 2, 3, 6 and 14) and the short par 3 to the island green on 15 is great fun. If you are driving well, there are a number of risks that you can take to make the holes quite easy (patently!!), e.g. 3, 8, 14, 16 and 18 but if you misjudge the line or go astray, there is little chance of recovery. Good value and well worth a visit. I had a "ball" and managed to keep mine all the way round 18 holes - a rare feat in itself!! Nick

The ideal course for a first round of a golfing break on the Costa del Sol. The type of course where if you are looking to break 80 -"easy course" - But if you are aiming at 71/72 -"tough track". In actuality there is a lot of local knowlege needed so you could be back for a second or third attempt. Against that not really top 100, unranked courses such as Adeje, Calanova, Girona, La Envia and Playa Serena are superior.
