The 18-hole layout at Patterson River Country Club is a Phil Ryan redesign of an old Gordon Oliver course which dated back to 1925. A large lake was excavated and dozens of non-indigenous trees were replaced during the new build. James Wilcher has since been engaged to create a new master plan for the course.

Today, the course extends to just under 5,700 metres from the back markers, playing to a par of 72, with fairways arranged as two returning 9-hole circuits. Water comes into play at half the holes on the scorecard, with aquatic challenges presented either off the tee or on the approach shot to the green.

Highlight holes include short par fours at the 3rd and 11th; the shortest of the par threes at the 130-metre 12th (played from an island tee in the middle of a small lake); and the closing par five hole which features a long, narrow lake down the left of the fairway and a small pond on the other side, close to the home green.
