Schönfeld

Located in the Lower Austrian wine region, less than ten kilometres from the border with Slovakia, Golfclub Schönfeld is a 27-hole facility comprising an 18-hole championship course, a 9-hole public course (“The Nine”), a 20-bay driving range and large practice area.

Vienna and Bratislava are both less than an hour’s drive away so the club is close to these cities for experienced golfers who’d like to play the big course and for less proficient players – even those without a handicap – who’d like to learn or fine tune their game on the small track.

The main course is laid out on a very compact parcel of land, with not a square metre of wasted space on any of the holes. Schönfeld serves up a rather simple, uncomplicated version of the game with wide fairways, recoverable bunkers and minimal water hazards but that’s a formula which appeals to most golfers.

Notable holes include short par fours at the 292-metre 5th (with a severe right doglegged fairway), the 288-metre 7th (protected by a diagonal line of cross bunkers) and the 312-metre 13th (where a tree line cuts across the fairway). And, as both nines end with water-protected greens, the par fours at holes 9 and 18 require extra care.
