Skalica
Situated less than ten miles from Hodonin in the Czech Republic, the course at Skalica Golf Club opened for play in 2009 and it’s fashioned in a links-like style by German architect Hans-Georg Erhardt of Golf & Land Design.
The layout measures a testing 6,577 metres from the back markers, with fairways routed around five lakes on a relatively flat landscape. Water comes into play at almost half the holes, most notably the stretch from #3 to #6 and at the final hole on each nine, where a small lake lies between the greens.
Highlight holes include the par four 8th (rated stroke index 1) where out of bounds runs along the left of the fairway and another pond lies in wait to the front left of the green. On the back nine, the par five 15th is another tough hole, doglegging right from the tee to a sand-protected green.
The club hosted the European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship in 2017, with eighteen teams participating in the event. England led the 2-round stroke play portion of the tournament, progressing to the 8-team match play section. The English ladies then faced France in the Final but the team came up short, losing to their Gallic opponents 3.5 to 1.5 points.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
