Wakamatsu

Located near the city of Kitakyusu, close to where the Onga River empties into the Tsushima Strait, the 18-hole layout at Wakamatsu Golf Club is an Osamu Ueda design that dates back to 1959, when the club was founded.

Host venue for the 94th edition of the Japan Amateur Golf Championship in 2009, the course occupies a flat, forested site alongside the coast, with tree-lined fairways – many of which are doglegged – playing to bent grass greens.

The two-tiered green on the par five 6th lies near the sands of the adjacent Iwaya Beach Resort and this is the standout hole on the front nine. The toughest hole on the inward half is the par four 14th, veering sharply left to a long, narrow green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
