Wembley (Old)
Wembley Downs, Western Australia- Address200 The Blvd, Wembley Downs WA 6019, Australia
The Old course at the Wembley Golf Course complex in Perth dates back to 1932, when Walter Fox set out the initial eighteen holes in the southeast section of a massive 36-hole public facility that extends to 300 acres.
Extending to just under 5,800 metres from the back markers, the Old course at Wembley plays to a par of 72 (36 out then 36 in), with holes arranged as two returning nines. The other 18-hole layout at this facility is the shorter Tuart course, measuring 5,372 metres from the tips, with par set at 70 (one par five on each nine and a par three as the final hole).
Highlights on the Old include the 426-metre 5th (veering first to the left and then to the right, with a tree in the middle of the fairway 75 metres short of the green) and the 348-metre 18th (doglegging right past anther centreline tree to a bunker-free home green) – no wonder these two holes are rated stroke index 1 and 2 on the scorecard!
