Established back in 1897, making it one of the oldest clubs in the country, Woolongong Golf Club lies immediately to the north of the massive industrial complex and seaport of Port Kembla, with sandy soiled fairways laid out along two kilometres of beautiful beach.
Many changes have taken place since a couple of Royal Sydney members (Leonard Dobbin and Irving Kent) set out the original nine holes, most notably when Eric Apperly added fairway and greenside bunkers to what was by then an 18-hole layout in 1935.
In the new millennium, Ross Watson prepared a master plan for the layout which resulted in course improvements in several phases. Work included bunker and fairway re-shaping, tree and bush removal, and the elimination of kikuyu grass from a number of green surrounds.
