Northern Thailand

More than half the nation’s seventy-six provinces are located in Northern Thailand, where this region shares a border with Myanmar to the northwest and with Laos to the northeast. It’s an expansive area that’s characterised by a landscape of densely forested mountains and a number of indigenous hill tribes still live here, each with its own language and culture.

    Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club is set some 250 miles to the northeast of Bangkok and the layout was fashioned by Golf East’s Pirapon Namatra across Singha Beer’s former wastewater disposal area.

    Kirimaya is one of Thailand’s better golf resorts, which is set within the Khao Yai National Park. It’s billed as a top three Nicklaus Asian design that’s routed in an old fashioned out and back style.

    The original course at Gassan Lake City Golf Club (as it was known) opened for play in 2005. A decade later the layout was completely renovated by architect Lee Schmidt and the property was renamed Gassan Legacy Golf Club.

  7. Alpine Golf Resort

    Northern Thailand, Thailand

    The Ron Garl-designed course at the Alpine Golf Resort in Chiang Mai is an absorbing experience where forested mountains provide a dramatic backcloth. The snaking par five 4th hole will stick in the memory, at 652 yards it’s one of the longest in Thailand.

  8. Mountain Creek (Highland & Creek)

    Mountain Creek Golf Resort & Residences boasts a 27-hole golf complex which was fashioned by Seve Ballesteros and his Trajectory Design company. The Highland and Creek nines combine to form the main 18-hole layout with the 9-hole Valley circuit in reserve.

    The course at Panorama Golf and Country Club is part of a residential development in Khao Yai National Park and the tree-lined playing corridors have been expertly set out on a rolling landscape of wooded hills and verdant valleys.

    A Bob McFarland design that debuted in 2010, the course at Rancho Charnvee Country Club enjoys a wonderfully natural setting within the Khao Yai National Park, with open, resort-style fairways allowing golfers plenty of latitude off the tee.
