The Wiltshire County Golf Union was founded in 1924 and there are now 24 clubs affiliated to the Union with around thirty courses across the county. Wiltshire is one of the smaller English golfing counties, but it has some wonderful courses that are not as well known outside the local area as they should be.

Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club dates back to 1888 and the club has expanded to today's 27-hole facility. Simon Gidman designed the main Cathedral course in 1991 and it affords panoramic views over the medieval City of Salisbury.

Cumberwell Park Golf Club’s first course opened for play in 1994. Adrian Stiff returned to add a further nine holes in 1999 and came back to complete the fourth nine in 2007 to create what's now the Blue and Orange layout.

Uphaven Golf Club owes its existence to the nearby airfield, and the establishment of a base for the Royal Flying Corps in 1912. A 9-hole golf course was quickly brought into use back then, along with facilities for cricket, tennis, football and a few other outdoor sports.

Formed in 1896, Chippenham Golf Club started out with a 7-hole layout which was later extended to nine holes before Harry Colt was called in to expand the course to eighteen holes in 1932.
