Caddying at The Masters and across golf is more than carrying bags and cleaning balls; these unsung heroes play an invaluable role in champions' successes by offering advice, moral support, and having an in-depth knowledge of their course. Over time, several caddies have become household names alongside those they assist. Here is a look at some notable caddies who have assisted at The Masters:

Willie "Pappy" Stokes was an icon at Augusta National. Caddying for four winners including Jimmy Demaret and Herman Keiser, his knowledge of the course and ability to read its difficult greens were an asset to them and to their players.

Carl Jackson provided invaluable caddie services to Ben Crenshaw during 39 Masters Tournaments, including his emotional win two days after their mentor Harvey Penick died. Jackson's deep knowledge of Augusta National's intricacies and soothing presence were crucial in Crenshaw's victory.

Angelo Argea Famous for his distinctive afro and partnership with Jack Nicklaus, Angelo Argea played an essential role in three of Nicklaus' six Masters victories thanks to Argea keeping Nicklaus focused and making crucial club selections during each victory. His contribution played an integral part in their triumphs.

Steve Williams was one of the best-known caddies in modern golf and played an essential role in Tiger Woods' four Masters victories during this decade. Williams' experience, decision-making capabilities, and psychological support proved vital components to Woods' dominance during this era.

Fanny Sunesson became the first female caddy to win The Masters when she caddied Nick Faldo to victory in 1996. Her careful preparation, course strategy, and ability to keep Faldo calm under pressure were instrumental to his historic comeback win.

Jim "Bones" Mackay served as Phil Mickelson's caddy during all three of his Masters victories (2004, 2006 and 2010). Their partnership was among golf's most fruitful: mutual trust was key as was taking risks that often paid off at Augusta National.

Joe LaCava, Tiger Woods' caddy during his remarkable comeback victory at Augusta National in 2019, provided him with steady support and experience to remain calm under pressure - something Fred Couples (1992 Masters Champion) was known for doing himself. LaCava played an essential part in helping Woods capture his fifth Green Jacket.
