Gerrards Cross

The woodland course at Gerrards Cross Golf Club opened in 1922 with an exhibition match between two famous Open Champions, George Duncan and Harry Vardon.

The course has been updated in recent years and today’s layout plays to a par of 69 from the 6,243-yard back tees. The more compelling holes are set on a plateau above the clubhouse with the heavily bunkered par three 16th being the pick of the bunch, with its benched greensite falling sharply away on the left side.

Since the club's foundation almost a century ago, many trees have been planted, some of these are now encroaching into playing lines reducing strategy. A sympathetic arboreal management programme would not only improve strategy through width, but would also help to generate firmer turf conditions.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
