Svartinge
Prolific architect Peter Nordwall has been designing Swedish courses since 1982 (when Bro Bålsta opened) and he is responsible for many of the top native tracks – such as Gränna and Skövde – that have been constructed since then.
Svartinge Golf Club is one of Nordwall’s more recent creations, opening in 2001, and it sits in prime golfing country just outside the Swedish capital, with the respected Täby course lying a few miles to the east and the stellar Bro Hof Slott property situated the same distance to the west.
Trees on many of the holes fringe fairways but the course never feels cramped or crowded. And with a gently undulating landscape, there are no blind shots to contend with; all hazards in the shape of water, sand or lush vegetation are laid out before you.
Each of the five short holes on the course is beautifully crafted and only one of these, the 11th, does not involve water. The 207-yard 4th is the first of the par threes on the card, played from an elevated tee position to a C-shaped, two-tiered green protected by a pond at the front left and a bunker to the right.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
