South Scotland

South Scotland, encompassing the Borders region and Dumfries and Galloway, has a turbulent history marked by centuries of Anglo-Scottish conflict. This frontier zone witnessed numerous cross-border raids and battles, with significant historic sites including Melrose Abbey and Caerlaverock Castle. The textile industry, particularly woollen mills in towns like Hawick and Galashiels, drove economic development from the 18th century onward.
