France conjures up images of chateaux and vineyards, crusty bread and smelly cheeses, the Eiffel Tower, the Tour de France, even garlic and onions. The French people have an air of seductive sophistication with a twist of va-va-voom and a dash of je ne sais quoi.

    Dave Thomas slipped the Château course at Terre Blanche Hotel Spa & Golf Resort onto the Provence landscape like a hand sliding into a silk glove.

  8. Les Aisses Golf (Les Aisses)

    North West France, France

    The original design at Les Aisses was modern and occasionally eccentric, but Hawtree Limited changed all that in 2010 and the golf course now harks back to the Golden Age.

  9. Cabot Highlands, formerly Golf du Médoc, is located in the north of Bordeaux. The Châteaux course at Cabot Bordeaux is Bill Coore's 3rd solo design, which he laid out with his design associate, Rod Whitman.

  10. Le Golf National (Albatros)

    North East France, France

    20 miles to the west of Paris at Guyancourt, surrounding the Chateau of Versailles – once home to Louis X1V – lies Golf National's stadium styled Albatros course.

    Close to the Edwardian seaside resort of Hardelot in the Pas de Calais northern region of France lies the beautiful golf course, Les Pins. It's set amongst the dunes and a glorious pine forest.

    The Kempferhof is one of the toughest challenges in the Alsace region. Robert von Hagge designed the course and it opened for play in 1989.

It’s true to say Cabot Bordeaux (formerly Golf du Médoc) Les Vignes has had to live in the shadow of an older sibling which hosted a French Open (in 1989) but the course is now maturing into one that’s finding its rightful position… Time will tell if Canadian-owned Cabot can create a compelling 36-hole destination in France.
