Lincolnshire

The Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs was founded in 1900 - 10 years following Burghley Park was the first golf local club was established in 1899. It was at that time that 13 clubs joined. There are now 51 clubs who are part of the Union and is an affiliate of the Midland Golf Union (joining in 1921). It is the Lincolnshire Union currently looks after the interests of 22,000 male golfers. The association is the body that governs for female golfers who are amateurs in the county. Its stated goals are to) adhere to regulations that govern England Golf, b) apply and enforce the CONGU process of handicapping and in addition,) encourage the development that women's golf has in Lincolnshire and to promote young golfers and to the third) manage, maintain and regulate the County Championship and other competitions or leagues. England Golf is home to its headquarters in the delightful little town in Woodhall Spa in the East Lindsey district. Here is where you'll find one of the most beautiful inland courses in the entire country of England. The Hotchkin is named after the former owner the Colonel Stafford Vere Hotchkin, the Hotchkin includes 18 holes of an amazing 36-hole golf course which should be played by every member of the EGU at some time.

    Woodhall Spa Golf Club is an oasis in the heart of Lincolnshire, set amongst glorious pine, birch and broom, this heathland golf course is an absolute delight to play.

  3. Woodhall Spa Golf Club (Bracken)

    The Bracken course is the foil to the famous 18 holes of the Hotchkin at Woodhall Spa. Respected architect Donald Steel sympathetically routed the Bracken across a rolling landscape of woodland and farmland in the late 1990s.

  4. Lincoln Golf Club

    Lincoln Golf Club was founded in 1891 and members moved to the club’s current Torskey site twelve years later. JH Taylor set out the original 9-hole course and it has since been expanded to an 18-hole layout that has hosted a variety of county competitions.

    Market Rasen & District Golf Club was founded in 1912 and relocated to its current Warren Farm site ten years later. Set in picturesque surroundings, this heath-like course has the River Rase as a natural water hazard.

  7. Belton Park (Brownlow)

    Described as a “hidden gem”, Belton Park Golf Club was founded in 1890 and the holes are weaved through the majestic parkland of the Belton House Estate. The Brownlow course is the premier 6,427-yard configuration at this 27-hole facility.

  8. Stoke Rochford

    Lincolnshire, England

    Stoke Rochford Golf Club was founded in 1924 with a 9-hole course which WH Aitken modified five years later. SV Hotchkin then fashioned a new 18-hole layout in 1935, removing two holes previously played in front of Stoke Rochford Hall.

  9. Elsham

    Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

    Founded in 1900, Elsham Golf Club is set in idyllic wooded surrounds on gently undulating ground that is part heathland and part parkland. Tony Jacklin won the Elsham Open here in 1958 and is an honorary member of the club.

    Originally founded in 1907, the club changed its name to Spalding Golf Club in 1926, but the parkland course that’s in play today bears little resemblance to the original which was used for grazing during the summer months.

  12. Blankney

    Lincolnshire, England

    S.V. Hotchkin doubled the size of the original 9-hole course at Blankney Golf Club just before the start of World War II but little of his work remains following a redesign of the layout by Cameron Sinclair in the late 1980s.

  13. Thonock Park (Karsten Lakes)

    Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

    Located in the heart of the Lincolnshire countryside, Thonock Park boasts two 18-hole golf courses and the club lies just over a mile away from the European headquarters of PING, with the company’s European Fitting Centre situated next to the driving range at Thonock Park.

  14. North Shore

    Lincolnshire, England

    North Shore Golf Club opened with an exhibition match involving James Braid, Harry Vardon, James Taylor and James Duncan. Braid then made course alterations and when the work was finished he returned with Vardon to inaugurate the new layout.

  15. Sleaford

    Lincolnshire, England

    Established in 1902 with a 9-hole course, Sleaford Golf Club engaged Notts professional Tom Williamson nine years later to advise on expanding the layout to eighteen holes. Apparently, the fee for this was £100 – plus the cost of construction the new greens, of course.
