Alberta

The Alberta Golf Association was founded in 1912 with five clubs represented on the inaugural committee. The equivalent female governing body followed ten years later when the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Ladies Golf Union was established and it would eventually merge with the AGA in 2000, forming an organisation that now looks after 57,000 golfers in over 220 clubs. Top tracks in the province include three exciting Rod Whitman-designed courses at Wolf Creek Resort (The Old Course and The Links Course) and at Blackhawk Golf Club and a couple of wonderful old Stanley Thompson tracks that date back to the 1920s at Jasper Park Lodge and Banff Springs.

  1. We’ve waxed lyrical about the location of Banff Springs Golf Club, but we can assure you that nothing prepares you for the reality, charm and sheer enormity of the setting.

  2. Jasper Park Lodge is a course that will appeal to golfers of all levels. It is both interesting and challenging without being brutal.

  3. Calgary Golf & Country Club was formed way back in 1897, moving to its present location in 1908 when it enlisted Tom Bendelow to lay out the original course.

  6. Rugged terrain and dramatic contours cause the Old course at Wolf Creek Golf Resort to play a lot longer than the scorecard suggests.

  7. Golf architect Gary Browning laid out the original 18-hole mountain course at Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club on a spectacular site adjacent to the Three Sisters mountain range.

  8. A new Rod Whitman-designed nine joins forces with the existing nine-hole South course to create the inspiring Links at the ever-popular Wolf Creek Golf Resort in Ponoka.

  9. The Mount Kidd golf course is located around an hour’s drive from either Calgary or Banff at Kananaskis Country, one of Canada’s premier public golfing destinations.

  18. Windermere - Alberta

    Alberta, Canada

A Robbie Robinson design, the Windermere Golf and Country Club course debuted in 1959. Water plays a large part in proceedings on the back nine, where the flowing waters of the North Saskatchewan River effect beauty and danger in equal measure.

  19. Priddis Greens (Raven)

    Alberta, Canada

Holes 10-18 on the Raven course were used as the back nine of a composite 18-hole course at Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club when the Canadian Women’s Open – an event won by Suzann Petterson – was held here in 2009.
