North Island

The North Island of New Zealand mixes rugged volcanic landscapes with laid-back city life, and is blessed with a delightfully mild climate. More than half of the island’s 3.3 million inhabitants live in the two main cities (Auckland and the capital, Wellington), leaving the rest of the island rather sparsely populated.

  4. Cape Kidnappers

    North Island, New Zealand

    The longest drive at Cape Kidnappers is between the public road and the clubhouse. But once on the course, if you can keep your eyes off the cliff top views, the main golfing points are the bunkers and the greens.

  10. Designed by Chris Cochran of Nicklaus Design and built by contractor Puddicombe Golf, the new 27-hole facility at the Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club features three 9-hole circuits, named Grange, Tamaki and Middlemore, and all of the greens incorporate state-of-the-art SubAir systems.

    Originally known at Matarangi Golf Links, the course at The Dunes Golf Club Matarangi​ was designed by Bob Charles and built in 1998 as a 9-hole layout which was expanded to 18 holes at the start of the new millennium.

    Situated 9 kilometres south of Tokoroa, the course at Tokoroa Golf Club occupies an area of around 125 acres, with holes arranged as two returning nines. From the back tees, the layout extends to just over 5,600 metres, with par set at 72 (37 out then 35 in).

    Laid out in the late 1960s by Jack Eccles across the rolling hills of the scenic South Kaipara peninsula, the course at South Head Golf Club may not be of championship length, but “Eagles Nest” the par three 10th was featured in Jeff Barr’s 1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before You Die.
